Pan-Canadian Network of Excellence for Ageing and Technology
The vision of AGE-WELL is to harness the potential of technology to provide high-quality and sustainable services and solutions to meet the needs of the current and future generations of older adults in Canada.
In Canada in 2011, an estimated 5 million people were aged 65 years or older. By 2036, this number is expected to be more than double, reaching 10.4 million. While older adults are living longer than in previous generations and are healthier than ever before, the differences in capacity to carry out activities of daily living and the number of chronic conditions become more apparent with increasing age.
- The aim of AGE-WELL is to help older Canadians to maintain their independence, health and quality of life through accessible technologies that increase their safety and security, support their independent living, and enhance their social participation.
- The Network will strengthen Canada’s international leadership in the design, development and commercialization of technology that supports the health and well-being of older adults.
- The outcomes from our research will ultimately contribute new solutions for older adults through technological, policy, and social advances that will change current practice.
