OA-INVOLVE'S OARPG are going live for a TWITTER TAKEOVER!

We invite you to virtually attend our Twitter Takeover on November 13th, 2019 starting at 1pm EST! 

During our Twitter Takeover, members of our Older Adult Research Partner Group will be answering questions related to the theme of "Experiences of Aging and Older Adult Involvement in Research". If you want to gain perspective on older adult experiences of aging and their involvement in research this event is for you! 

What is a Twitter Takeover?

A Twitter takeover is when a person or group takes over another Twitter account for a short period of time. This allows for a new way to engage followers and gives them a different perspective. This Twitter takeover will be like an online Q&A session in that people will tweet their questions and the OARPG members will provide their responses. 

Who are the OARPG?

​The OARPG (Older Adult Research Partner Group) is a group of older adult volunteers who provide advice and guidance on the development, implementation, and progress of the OA-INVOLVE project, which aims to establish models of best practice for the active involvement of older adults in technology research and development. Carole Lidstone 

I was born in Vancouver and live there now after spending many years living in Toronto, Victoria, and Calgary. I joined OARPG three years ago and have enjoyed meeting all the interesting people involved.  I especially loved collaborating on the "Twitter Takeover" and the recent 2019 AGE-WELL Conference "Science Slam" skit. Now that I am retired I can pursue my lifelong passion of acting and self development.  It is never too late to follow one's heart!  Who knows where it may lead....

Janet Fowler 

​I was born in Winnipeg, and have lived in four provinces, one U.S. state and 12 cities.  My Bachelor of Science in Nursing was followed at age 40 with a return to school for a Masters in Health Sciences.  Along the way I have added 3 children and 6 grandchildren.  My career in nursing was varied, with the last 30 years in the field of public health.  I was happy to join OARPG 3 years ago to further contribute to research as an older adult.

Ian Goldman 

Ian was born in Leeds, UK and settled in the Toronto area in 1986. Since retiring from IT project work in 2010 he has been interested in the benefits of technology to improve aging and caregiving. Ian coaches other older adults in community centres to use smartphones apps and social media for pursuing their interests. He also provides lived experience to researchers and developers of technology, especially through the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (C.A.B.H.I.) at Baycrest.. Projects have included the "Minds in Motion" program for people living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers, and innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics through AGE-WELL. ​

Bessie Harris

A graduate of the University of Toronto with an MSW, I began my career in Children’s Mental Health and worked many years as a senior administrator in Government retiring early to start my own consulting business until I reached retirement age. I became a member of the OARPG about four years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the amazing members of the group and the researchers.  It has been quite a learning experience for me with such things as the Twitter Workshop, Science Slam and the Twitter Takeover. ​
