Using Photovoice to Engage Older Adults in Knowledge Mobilization Webinar

Photovoice is a participatory action research method used to document, illustrate, express, and share a particular topic through imagery. It allows participants to provide explanations or captions for the visual materials they produce, helping to share their lived experience and explain their world to others. In this webinar, we will explore the following: the theory of photovoice and its usefulness as an engagement and knowledge mobilization tool; tips on how to implement a photovoice-style project as a means of older adult engagement and knowledge mobilization; and the thoughts and experiences of older adults who participated in the project.

Co-Created OARPG Member Comics

OA-INVOLVE researchers and members of the older adult research partner group (OARPG), wanted a unique and fun way of disseminating best practices for engaging older adults in research through arts based methods. As a team, we decided conveying these best practices through the form of comics would meet these criteria. In a humourous, colourful, and fun way, each comic presents an important message for researchers to think about when they engage older adults in their research. These comics were brought to life by visual artist, Kate Phillips. katephillips.net

AGE-WELL 2019 Conference Science Slam Presentation: "Twitter Newbies to Trained Tweeters"

The Science Slam is not your typical scientific talk – it’s like a poetry slam but for science! At this year’s AGE-WELL conference in Moncton, members of OA-INVOLVE’s Older Adult Research Partner Group (OARPG) – Judith Carson, Ian Goldman, Bessie Harris, Anne Kerr – and Romeo Colobong (OA-INVOLVE Toronto local engagement lead) were voted the winners of the Science Slam!

They collaborated to develop and perform a skit about OA-INVOLVE’s recent Twitter Workshop, which was co-developed by researchers and OARPG members. The title of the skit is "
Twitter Newbies to Trained Tweeters: A Twitter Workshop with the Older Adult Research Partner Group of OA-INVOLVE". Special thanks to OARPG member Carole Lidstone who helped to develop the script for the presentation, but was not able to attend the conference.
